Widow’s Affidavit.
State of Georgia,
Banks County.
Personally before me comes
Mrs. J. E. Payne of said County, who, after being duly sworn, says that she is
the widow of W. P. Payne [William P. Payne] to whom, in the County of Franklin
State of Georgia she was married on the 6 Dec. 1860, and that she remained his
wife, and resided with him to the date of his death in Feb. 8 1920 and that she
has not since his death remarried. At
the time of his death he was a resident of Banks County, in said State of
Georgia, and he was on the Ind. & Serv. Pension Roll of the State and
[handwritten “I was paid his”] pension of $100 in Banks County for 1920 per
annum, on account of being a soldier in Company C Regiment 8 Ga. Infantry. (Volunteers of State Militia.)
That she is now a bona fide
resident citizen of said County of Banks and she has so continuously resided
since .....day of ....1865. [She was born 4 Oct. 1844]

Death of Husband.

Personally before me comes C.
W. Gillespie known to be responsible and truthful persons, residing in said
County, who after being duly sworn, say: that of their own personal knowledge
Mrs. J. E. Payne, who made the foregoing affidavit, is the lawful widow of W.
P. Payne who died in Banks County in said State of Ga. On 8 Feb. 1920, and that
she has not since remarried. That she
became the wife of W. P. Payne on the “See Cert. Copy of License” and that she
and he resided together as man and wife continuously since .... day of ...18..
and that the W. P. Payne was the same man who was on the pension roll of said
State Ga. from Banks County when he died.
