Confederate Pension Application of William D. Nicholson

For Use Of Applicants Who Have Not Heretofore Drawn.

Banks County.
Personally appears W. D. Nicholson of said Banks
County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he was born
on the 4th day of April 1845, that he is a bona-fide citizen and
resident of Georgia, and has been continuously all of his life except he moved
to Arkansas in 1889, came back to Banks Co., Ga., Sept. 30st [sic] 1906, that
he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or the State of
Georgia) on the [blank] day of August, 1863, during the war between the States,
and served in Company B of 1st Ga. Regiment of State Troops
Volunteers Stovall’s Brigade, and was honorably discharged on the [blank] day
of May 1865; that whilst engaged in such military service, and in line of duty
in the State of Ga., on the [blank] day of Fall 1864 he was disabled or wounded
as follows:
Contracted Rheumatism & chronic dysentery &
varicose veins while in line of duty which resulted in rendering him unable to
do manual labor sufficient to make a support for himself. And at times he is unable to walk and
confined to his bed for months at a time.
Where was command surrendered?
Near Grizzleville [Griswoldville], Ga.
Was applicant present?
I was at home on furlough sick.
If not, where was he?
At home sick.
How come there?
Sick with rheumatism.
And by whose authority? State fully:
By the regiment surgeon and has forgotten his name.
Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of
Section 1250 of the Code, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes
application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year thereunder,
ending October 26th, 19[blank].

Note: William D. Nicholson was the son of David M.
Nicholson and Lucinda C. Fowler and he was born in Franklin County,
Georgia. In the 1900 census William D.
Nicholson was living in Independence, Arkansas. In 1910 he was living in Miller District of Jackson County, Ga.,
as a 65 year old Widowed “Hired Man”.
