William Luce Missing in Pacific Contributed by: Mike Grasse
The community was sobered by the report that Staff Sgt. William E. Luce, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Luce of this village, has been reported missing since March 20 in the South Pacific area. The parents received a telegram from Acting Ajt. Gen. Dunlop, Washington D.C., informing them of the situation Tuesday. The news staff joins the entire community in hoping that he will turn up soon, as many others have after similar experiences.
This news follows closely behind two releases from the 13th Army Air Force informing us that William had been awarded two more Oak Leaf Clusters in lieu of additional Air Medals, for serving as assistant radio operator-gunner from Dec. 1 to Feb. 7. The last award was made on March 8, and was the third cluster he has received in addition to the Air medal.
