Sunnyview/Poor Farm Cemetery

The following interments come to you through the generosity of Janet Eiler who recorded these in August 2001.
Entrance Sign: This Cemetary is dedicated to those citizens of Winnebago County that have been laid to rest here and to the war Veterans that died in the service of their country. Winnebago County Parks System.
(The Sunnyview/Poor Farm Cemetary holds 385 souls of people who died in the Asylum, Poor Farm, TB Hospital, Park View, or the Mental Hospital. All the people buried here had either no family or poor families that did not claim them upon their deaths. Each person was buried with a long skinny cement marker with only a number imprinted on it.
The Winnebago County Parks Department only has copies of the names of those buried here as they were written in the pocket-sized notebook carried by the groundskeeper at the time of the burials.
The Winnebago County Parks Department and the Winnebago County Historical Society are going to begin a project to try and figure out which number belongs to which individual. They will also be working on plotting out the cemetary and to beautify it. The previous caretakers of this cemetary had neglected it and a lot of work had to be done to get it to look like it does today. They plan to plant hedges and bushes around the perimeter. They also plan to erect a sign with each individual's name on it to help honor the forgotten people buried in the Sunnyview/Poor Farm Cemetary.)
