J. H. JUNGSWORTH of Oshkosh, a telegraph operator, better known on the wire and "Jungsworthless" got into a heap of trouble a few days ago while relieving R. C. VOSE, operator at the South Yards.
JUNGSWORTH it seems became lonesome in the little operating room and started in to "shoot up" the place. With a gun and plenty of ammunition, he shot 24 holes through the ceiling, broke 19 glass insulators on the top of the telegraph poles, shot the lamp into a thousand pieces, riddled the sheet iron stove pipe and put a number of holes through the floor. He also damaged one of the telegraph keys.
When VOSE returned to his duties, and took one look at the interior of the room, he imagined that a lot of cow punchers had "shot up" the station. An investigation, it is alleged, resulting in putting the blame on JUNGSWORTH. Lineman MACKEY of Manitowoc while looking for trouble on the wires found that 19 of the glass insulators had been broken. A reward of $25 is offered by the telegraph company for and damage done to their property. JUNGSWORTH has been laid off by the company, and will be asked to make good the damage alleged to have been made by him. JUNGSWORTH relieved Frank SHIMECK at the local station last summer and is quite well known here.
