LOST IN THE WOODS
The Lincoln County Advocate contains an account of how Mr. Abel NEFF of Oshkosh was lost in the woods in that county. According to the account Mr. NEFF has a son living near DUDLEY's station and on July 25th arrived at the station on his way to his son's place. A friend was to have met Mr. NEFF at the station but failed to put in an appearance on time. Mr. NEFF undertook to foot it through the woods a distance of several miles. The account goes on to say: A short time after his departure, a nephew of Mr. NEFF by the name of CONE, arrived at the station in quest of the old gentleman, but was informed that he had already gone on. As CONE had discovered no signs of him along the route taken by him, it was concluded that Mr. NEFF had lost his way. The whole neighborhood was aroused and parties sent out in search of the lost one. The search was continued until after night-fall, but without avail. Next morning, the 27th, the search was renewed, and prosecuted with such vigor, that Mr. NEFF was found about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, at a point two miles east of Hay Meadow Creek and three miles from his son's place, when discovered he was walking around in a circle somewhat larger that a circus ring. He says he was compelled to walk on account of the severity of the flies and mosquitoes, which were quite numerous, and he was pretty well exhausted from constantly moving about. He was taken to DUDLEY's, where he was regaled with a bountiful repast prepared by Mrs. DUDLEY, not having tasted any food for twenty-four hours, after which he departed for his son's place, this time under proper escort.
